The NPP wants to see a new transformation in the energy sector as well as all other spheres, said its presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
He was speaking at a party event for the energy sector on ‘energizing the national renaissance’ at Colombo Marriott Hotel on 15 August.
Dissanayake pledged a NPP regime would restore the sovereign power of making decisions in the energy sector to the state.
Both local and foreign investors would be welcome in energy generation, but nothing with be expected from them in return.
Black marks on the sector would be erased, he added.
Energy committee member of the NPP, engineer Pubudu Niroshan said a NPP rule would ensure reasonable energy prices within the first five years.
Thereafter, alternative, cheaper and productive energy sources would be tapped within three years as well, he said.
