The Election Commission has gazetted Bandulal Bandarigoda as SJB MP for Galle to fill the vacancy created following the expulsion of Manusha Nanayakkara.
Together with Nanayakkara’s, Harin Fernando’s expulsion too, has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
Fernando was appointed on the SJB national list.
That seat remains vacant, with some insisting Hirunika Premachandra should fill it.
Both SLMC leader Rishad Bathiudden and general secretary Nizam Kariyappar have said that they have not asked for that seat.
Premachandra said she has not requested it, and that she wanted to get elected by the people.
She was responding to reports that an electronic media channel has threatened to withdraw support to SJB presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa if she was given the seat.
