Conditions imposed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will be revisited to ensure economic relief for the continuation of public life, said Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Dr. Harsha de Silva.

He told parliament yesterday (07) that his party has already formulated a programme to earn dollars under an export-oriented economy in order to repay foreign debt.

He was participating in the adjournment debate on the status of state finances in the first quarter of 2024.

However, president Ranil Wickremesinghe said on the same day that the IMF conditions are not subject to change.

He told heads of media institutions at Cinnamon Grand Hotel that the country would not receive money if those conditions were violated and the economy would collapse again.

Then, none of the promises given by various parties would not be met and the VAT would have to be raised further, he said.

He urged the people to grant him the mandate to continue with the government programme.
