The president has received legal advice that the Supreme Court only has issued an injunction against Deshabandu Tennakoon from functioning as the IGP, and that the position has not fallen vacant, ‘Lankadeepa’ reports.

It quoted a senior minister as saying that an acting police chief cannot be appointed in this situation, as per the 21st amendment.

Therefore, the position will remain as it is until the matter is settled, said the minister.
