Schools in upcountry areas where Malaiyaha Tamils live are yet to receive the ownership of the land on which they are located, although they were taken over by the state more than 50 years ago.
This matter was raised by SJB MP Velu Kumar in parliament on 10 July.
He said teachers and principals are forced to clash with politicians, thugs and criminals to protect these schools.
Giving three examples, he demanded education minister Susil Premajayantha explain the action he has taken against the encroachment of schools in Nawalapitiya, Kandy and Ratnapura.
