A Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP has proposed the declaration of a day of remembrance for those who died fighting on behalf of the Malaiyaha Tamils in the upcountry.
Velu Kumar asked in parliament that 10 January be made that day, on which estate worker Govindan of Muloya was died in a police shooting during a protest over wages.
Leader of the House Susil Premajayantha said they found no issue with declaring such a day.
He said the matter would be referred to the labour ministry for necessary action.
