It will be the president who will have to allot funds from the consolidated fund if a referendum is to be held for a passage of the cabinet-approved constitutional amendment on the president’s term, said a top official of the Election Commission.

The official has told ‘Anidda’ that the commission has been allotted funds this year to hold the presidential election only at its specific request.

Also, a referendum will not come in the way of holding the presidential polls.

The cost of a referendum will be same as the cost for a presidential election, he noted.

The Rs. 10 billion allotted to hold the presidential polls would not be enough due to higher costs, he added.
