Incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe should contest for the presidency, insists chief government whip Prasanna Ranatunga.
His party, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), is yet to decide whether to field a candidate, and is without a suitable candidate at present, Ranatunga says.
If the incumbent contests, he says, he will be committed to ensuring his victory as a show of gratitude to him, Ranatunga told a SLPP meeting in Udugampola, Gampaha yesterday (13).
