A group of MPs representing the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) have informed that they did not approve the Committee Report on the investigation into alleged weaknesses in the procurement process related to the new online visa programme awarded to VFS Global, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana said.

The report was presented to Parliament by COPF Chairman Dr. Harsha de Silva on Friday (12).

They claimed the report was presented without the committee’s approval.

The Speaker said, that although Dr. de Silva presented the report, several MPs who are committee members claimed they were unaware of the report and did not approve it. They announced their intention to submit a written complaint regarding this matter, he added.

The MPs who made this complaint to the Speaker include Shehan Semasinghe, Dr. Seetha Arambepola, Dr. Suren Raghavan, Anupa Pasqual, Johnston Fernando, Wajira Abeywardena, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Duminda Dissanayake, Nimal Lanza, Sumith Udukumbura, Major Pradeep Undugoda, Isuru Dodangoda, Premnath C. Dolawatte and Sahan Pradeep.

When queried about the situation, several MPs reiterated that they did not approve the report and confirmed their plan to submit a written complaint to the Speaker regarding Dr. Harsha de Silva’s actions.
