The notification announcing the presidential polls will be published within the coming fortnight, Election Commission chairman R.M.L. Ratnayake said.
As per constitutional provisions, the commission can announce the election after 17 July.
It will meet before 31 July and fix dates for the presidential polls, he said.
Once announced, nominations for the election will be accepted within a period of between 16 and 21 days, followed by the election taking place within a period of between four and six week, he added.
Anyway, it should take place on a date between 17 September and 16 October, added the election chief.
