A remembrance has taken place for nearly 150 victims of aerial bombings on a church and a kovil in Navaly in Jaffna in 1995.

Relatives and area residents gathered for the event at St. Peter’s Church on 09 July.

A mass took place and floral and other tributes were paid for the dead.

Exactly 29 years ago, men, women and children seeking shelter from the war were killed in Air Force attacks on the two religious places.

They had gathered on a notification by the military.

According to reports by the north east human rights bureau, a total of 155 bodies had been recovered following the attacks.

The two religious places and around 30 houses were badly damaged as well.
