The country cannot remain suspended forever in the perilous vine bridge, said UNP national secretary Ravi Karunanayake.

A permanent bridge needs to be built, he said, for which the country should escape from the debt burden.

Speaking to the media yesterday (05), the former finance minister said president Ranil Wickremesinghe has notified that elections should take place on time.

Foreign investments are making a return, with development work on hold resuming now, he said.

Karunanayake said Sri Lanka can progress once 28 per cent of face value in debts are written off.

"The debt restricting agreements will be submitted to parliament in due course," he added.
