The government should work to catch those who evade taxes despite being able to pay, said leader of the URF Patali Champika Ranawaka yesterday (17).
Give us that task for six months and we will show results, he said.
Ranawaka was speaking during a public meeting in Homagama.
He said several former ministers, including a very powerful one, had evaded repaying loans amounting to Rs. 650,000 million to state banks.
Due to this, a common man is not even able to obtain a bank loan, he said.
Ranawaka added that plans are afoot to impose two new taxes, further increasing the tax burden on the public.
