Incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe is certain to postpone the presidential polls if he is convinced of defeat in the face of the SLPP fielding its own candidate, said former ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga.

In such a situation, the country could witness a serious disturbance in November, he said.

Giving an interview to ‘Sandeshaya by Saroj’ YouTube channel, Weeratunga said it was yet to be decided whether or not to organize charter flights for Russian tourists from that month onwards.

Western countries will not object to the postponement of the election, and so will certain institutions and individuals in Sri Lanka, he claimed.

He said the president would announce a general election first.

If the people reject the Rajapaksas, the best candidate in place of Namal Rajapaksa will be Dhammika Perera, added the Rajapaksa relative Weeratunga.
