The red comrades have now become red elephant comrades after striking deals with the president, charged opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
They are now challenging him to attend political debates by state-run media channels, he said.
The JVP wants a debate between leaders, whereas the SJB challenged it to a debate between their economic committees first, said Premadasa at a meeting of SJB activists among the fisher community in Chilaw.
People have the right to know as to who is capable of reviving the bankrupt country.
The red elephant comrades are without an economic expert team or an economic programme, said the opposition leader.
He said he was prepared for both debates, with the economic teams meeting first.
The SJB has been able to carryout considerable work while being in the opposition, he said adding that he was prepared anytime to work competitively.
