ITAK MP Charles Nirmalanathan has demanded the immediate enforcement of the law against six policemen who damaged a citizen’s property in a vehicle accident.

Speaking in parliament, the MP referred to the incident at Nedunkerni south in Vavuniya on 04 June.

The OICs of Puliyankulam and Kanagarayankulam and four other policemen had driven their jeep under the influence of liquor and crashed it into a house of a teacher, he said.

At the time, around 40 children had been studying at the house, said the MP.

The damage caused to the house, a motorcycle and electricity cables is estimated at more than Rs. two million.

Nirmalanathan said the errant cops should be suspended and an inquiry initiated against them.

TNPF MP Selvaraja Gajendran too, called for action against the policemen.
