The general secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Ranjith Madduma Bandara has been named to a committee of MPs of the United National Party to discuss political cooperation.
The party’s working committee appointed the panel led by Wajira Abeywardena and also includes Harin Fernando, Manusha Nanayakkara and Vadivel Suresh.
When journalists questioned as to how a SJB member could be named to a UNP committee, its general secretary Palitha Range Bandara said they have decided to restore his party membership.
The UNP working committee that met on 02 June decided to reinstate Madduma Bandara, who was suspended for joining the SJB in 2020.
However, disciplinary action against him is to continue.
UNP MP Wajira Abeywardena said the meaning of his reinstatement would be made known within days.
