Crimes will continue unabated as long as criminals go unpunished, said senior journalist Sunanda Deshapriya.

He was speaking at the 20th year remembrance of slain colleague A. Nadesan, held in Batticaloa on 31 May, citizenpostlk.com reported.

Deshapriya was among a handful of participants from the south, who attended the event organized by several media groups.

A number of social and political activists participated.

Speaking further, he noted that no justice had been done so far for any of the murdered Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim journalists.

The killers, some of whom are known to us, are still at large, said Deshapriya.

On internet, it said the Karuna faction killed Nadesan, but no investigation has taken place, he said.

Impunity is a key concern in Sri Lanka, as pointed out by the UN human rights chief.

With elections at hand, everybody should make a determination that criminals are punished, added Deshapriya.
