Major General (retd.) Lalith Abeywardena, USP (N/50945), has passed away, aged 65.
He passed away this morning (03) while receiving treatment at the Army Hospital, family sources said.
A past student of Royal College, Colombo, he joined the Army and served in the services corps.
He was trained at the Diyatalawa training school and at the Indian Military Academy and had further advanced foreign training.
He leaves behind his wife, political activist Upulangani Malagamuwa, and one child. He was also the brother-in-law of famed racing driver Dilantha Malagamuwa.
Remains will lie at ‘Respect’, Jayaratne Florists at Borella on 05 and 06 June.
The funeral takes place on 06 June at the Borella cemetery.
