The mastermind behind the Russia human trafficking racket identified as Chaturanga has described himself as a secretary to MP Sarath Weerasekara.
One of the Sri Lankans who managed to escape and return from Russia, Manoj Wickramaratne, said Chaturanga claimed so while making recruitments via Zoom.
Incidentally, Weerasekara was part of a delegation led by defence secretary Kamal Gunaratne that had been touring Russia as Chaturanga fled Sri Lanka.
‘The Leader’ previously revealed that the police are investigating certain actresses too, over their involvement in the racket.
On the basis of revelations made by Wickramaratne, the CID arrested some suspects, including a retired major general.
