MP Wimalaweera Dissanayake tendered an apology to former minister Ravi Karunayake at courts today (31) over a derogatory remark he had made against him three years ago.

Accordingly, Kaduwela district court judge Dulani S. Weeratunga ordered the settlement of the case.

Karunanayake filed the case against Dissanayake over his allegation at a media briefing in September 2021 that he had hoarded sugar, and sought Rs. two billion in damages.

After the court hearing concluded, Karunanayake told journalists outside courts that to err is human, but to forgive is divine.

Noting that this was the 11th occasion that he had forgiven his critics, Karunanayake added that "What we want is to build a country, not keep on accusing others personally."
