The police deployed Special Task Force (STF) commandos in Nuwara Eliya town after minister Jeevan Thondaman and his supporters assaulted an estate company chief.
The incident took place yesterday (30) morning at a meeting at the district secretariat.
The assault victim complained to the police and moments later, Thondaman stormed the police station and threatened its officers for recording the complaint.
Thereafter, he and his supporters forced their way into the office of the estate company in question and looked for its chief.
Public security minister Tiran Alles ordered police to deploy the STF to maintain law and order in the area.
In the meantime, Thondaman called a media briefing and explained his side of the story.
