Uncertainty hangs around the proposed debate between the leaders of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and the National People's Power (NPP) due to various tugs-of-war between the two parties.
A main reason is the two parties are having opposing opinions with regard to the matter.
SJB MP Nalin Bandara has asked the NPP to notify them about a date for the debate from among the dates proposed by the SJB.
In a letter to NPP’s Nalinda Jayatissa, he also insisted the debate between their economic committees should precede a faceoff between their two leaders.
NPP’s Sunil Handunnetti said their stand remains unchanged that the leaders should meet first.
Critics say both seem to avoid facing each other.
