Parliamentarians cannot beg from the people to make a living, and they should be given duty-free vehicle permits if needed, or else they will steal, said SJB MP Harsha de Silva.
Speaking to the media yesterday (15), he said it was easy to criticise that such and such were given to the MPs, but that the ones who steal don’t need any such things.
Not all the MPs are retirees from the private sector, and what can they do from the salary they draw? de Silva asked.
MPs from Moneragala, Jaffna, Badulla and Trincomalee find it difficult to manage with their salary, he added.
