The Mawbima Jantha Party (MJP) is ready to compete with older parties despite being new in politics, said its leader Dilith Jayaweera.

Addressing the media for the first time at his office in Borella yesterday (09), he also said the SLPP has now become an invalid party.

The MJP will appear on behalf of the 6.9 million people who had voted for the SLPP.

Also, the party should rally all others who are opposed to the Rajapaksas and refrained from voting, he said.

According to Jayaweera, the MJP was formed to fill the political void in local politics.

"The party is not a coincidence, but one based on a realistic vision," he added.
