Two retired military officers arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the organised racket of sending retired military personnel as mercenaries to Russia were remanded till May 16 by Negombo Chief Magistrate Rakhitha Abeysinghe yesterday (09).
The Trade, Smuggling and Maritime Crime Investigation Division of the CID arrested the suspects retired Major General Ranaraja Ranawaka and retired Sergeant Major Sarath Wijesinghe at Kurunegala area on Wednesday (8) night.
Presenting facts to the Court, the CID said that it has been revealed that the arrested retired Major General is among the masterminds of this racket.
