In the event parliament is dissolved next month, a general election could take place within the next 60-day period, said director general of the Election Commission Saman Ratnayake.
He has told ‘Deshaya’ that with a presidential poll due, both elections would have to be held this year.
Around 50 days are needed to make preparations for the presidential election after its announcement, he added.
