A detailed report into substandard medicines, purchase scams and those responsible is to be submitted to parliament next week, said the National Audit Office.

Several teams of auditors, as instructed by auditor general W.P.C. Wickramaratne, inquired into these wrongdoings and prepared the report over a period of nearly one year.

On the basis of their findings, COPE and COPA are expected to hold separate inquiries into the frauds in the health sector.

Former health minister Keheliya Rambukwella and several top health officials are accused over these incidents and are in remand custody.

The low-quality human immunoglobulin scam alone has caused a loss of Rs. 1,100 million to the state.
