Approving nominations by SLFP candidates will be problematic at future elections in the event its internal crisis continues further, said the Election Commission.
Its chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake said the party presently had two factions, who have made separate party appointments.
Its constitution too, has certain issues, he said, adding the commission would not be able to judge whose nominations it should accept.
The SLFP factionalized as Sirisena and Chandrika factions after courts issued an injunction preventing the former from functioning as the party chairman.
Ratnayake added that he was prepared to have talks with both factions before deciding on the legality of these recent appointments to the party.
