Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has demanded to know the reason for the delay in implementing the anticorruption mechanism wanted by bondholders to be in place.
He said the government now had the opportunity to prove its transparency by deed after Verite Research got involved with bondholders in talks.
The outcome of the discussion was a promise for unconditional writing off of interest on the country’s loans, he said.
Premadasa was speaking after handing over a smart classroom and a Rs. 100,000 cash donation to Al Akbar Muslim college in Ambalantota.
He said further that the government cannot expect any leniency from bondholders if it allows the corrupt political culture to continue to swindle the country’s properties and resources.
