The next New Year will be celebrated in an era of economic development together with a populist, humane agreement negotiated with the IMF, said opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.

Talks in that connection have already taken place, he said, stressing the need for an economic growth that ensures welfare and prosperity for all, instead of a solution that contracts the economy.

He was speaking after handing over a smart classroom to Zahira National School in Hambantota yesterday (15) under the SJB’s ‘Sakvala’ IT programme.

According to the opposition leader’s office, 156 schools have so far benefitted from the programme under which Rs. 170 million had so far been spent.

Also, medicines and medical equipment worth Rs. 176 million have been provided to 57 hospitals and 87 buses worth Rs. 424 million handed over to 87 schools.
