MP Dullas Alahapperuma has asked former heads of states if it is justifiable that they live on taxpayers money and continue to do party politics.

He urged the four ex-presidents to leave politics and save the public billions of rupees spent on their maintenance.

“This conduct by the executive presidents of our country is unpleasant and disgusting. On the other hand, it is an insult, injustice and indignity to taxpayer money,” he said.

Only J.R. Jayewardene didn’t depend on public money in a Sri Lankan context, while in the United States, just one out of 46 ex-presidents continued to engage in party politics, he added.
