The Election Commission says it will meet on 18 April and decide whether or not to accept the decisions taken by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party's politburo.
The party’s decisions were intimated to the commission yesterday (08) by Duminda Dissanayake, Lasantha Alagiyawanne and Weerakumara Dissanayake.
The politburo that met at Sri Lanka Foundation with ex-president Chandrika Kumaratunga attending as an observer, decided to appoint Nimal Siripala de Silva as acting chairman.
It also appointed Dissanayake as the national organizer.
Sirisena off to Thailand
Meanwhile, former SLFP chairman Maithripala Sirisena left for Thailand this morning (09).
The Thai Airways flight TG-308 carrying him and nine others left Katunayake airport at 12.55 am.
