URF leader Patali Champika Ranawaka has warned of a possibility of communal clashes perpetrated by destructive forces when the presidential polls nears.
The president and the law enforcement authorities have a responsibility to prevent such from happening, he said at the party’s Galle district conference.
The Easter Sunday attacks could be an act by a similar force, he said, adding the government should find out the truth behind it.
Since 2015 when Mahinda Rajapaksa was evicted from power, various forces have been actively dividing society and creating mistrust between the Sinhalese and the Muslims, Ranawaka added.
At the upcoming presidential polls, the people should elect a reliable person who is capable of developing the country, he added.
