Courts have dismissed a case against eight Tamil Hindus arrested for performing religious activities at a site also claimed by Buddhists in Vavuniya on the night of 08 March.
The Vavuniya district court found the police failed to prove the accusations and released the men.
They were taken into custody on a charge of having ignored a court order and making Maha Sivaratri offerings at the site at Vedukkunari in Nedunkerni.
Since then, protests have taken place demanding their release.
One took place by TNA MPs in parliament on 19 March, with opposition leader Sajith Premadasa extending his support.
