All arrangements are in place to form an extensive SLFP-led alliance with ‘chair’ as the symbol, said party sources.
Its launch is expected to be held in Colombo at an auspicious date yet to be announced.
It will be named the People’s Alliance and several amendments have been introduced to allow for unions with more than 45 MPs.
It will function under a leadership council and office-bearers are due to be appointed next week.

Meanwhile, Mahinda Amaraweera and Thilanga Sumathipala have sent their letters of resignations as the UPFA general secretary.
Their letters, sent to party chief Maithripala Sirisena, are to be produced before courts to settle a case filed by Amaraweera against his being replaced with Sumathipala in the position.
