A data-collection app will be introduced for the protection of foreign tourists, said tourism minister Harin Fernando.
This software will monitor their movements, places of accommodation and mode of transport used etc., he said.
Speaking to the media, Fernando was referring to reported safety issues of foreign tourists.
Further, tourism police will be given more personnel as well as technological training towards that end, said the minister.
Speaking further, he said that out of 47 proposed tourism zones, 24 have already been declared.
All persons involved in those zones with tourists such as trishaw drivers and hawkers will be given training as well to respect them as guests and ensure their safety.
