A total of 13,666 suspects have been arrested under the ‘Yukthiya’ operation since its launch on 17 December, said the police headquarters.

Of them, 717 are being detained, while assets investigations are to begin against 174 others.

Also, 1,097 drug addicts will be sent for rehabilitation.

Among those arrested are 1,107 out of 4,665 listed criminals who are wanted by the narcotics and special bureaus.

Drugs seized so far are 9.82 kg of heroin, 4.679 kg of ice, 272.96 kg of cannabis and 944,651 cannabis plants, 989 g of hashish, 117.31 kg of mawa, 35.75 kg of ash, 3.15 kg of thul, 520 g of kush and 65,924 tablets.

What happened during last 24 hours

 

Drugs seizures during the past 24 hours are 607 g of heroin, 381 g of ice, 3.68 kg of cannabis and 162,931 cannabis plants, 1.3 kg of mawa and 1,042 tablets.

Arrestees number 1,534, and 84 of them are being detained.

Assets investigations are to begin against 23 others, while 99 drug addicts will be sent for rehabilitation.

Among those arrested are 90 listed criminals who are wanted by the narcotics and special bureaus.

 

NSA joins Tiran

 

With the police to be deployed for special duties during Christmas, the operation will be suspended for three days, said Talduwa.

National security adviser Sagala Ratnayaka and public security minister Tiran Alles inspected a number of vehicles seized from the suspects during an awareness event at police stadium at Mirihana.

Acting IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon and ministry secretary Viana Gunatilake were also in attendance.
