The winner of the next presidential election will be aged below 60 years, said SJB’s S.M. Marrikar.
According to the party’s media spokesman, the country’s youths find nothing in a grandfatherly-type politician aged over 75.
“The election for that president takes place in September or October,” said Marikkar at a media briefing.
Candidates who have declared their intention to contest and are aged below 60 are Sajith Premadasa, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Dilith Jayaweera, Dhammika Perera and Janaka Ratnayake.
Marikkar said incumbent Ranil Wickremesinghe was certain not to contest as he knows that he has no chance.
Further, he will be left with no party to contest from, in the event the SLPP decides on Dhammika Perera, he added.
