The operation to eliminate the underworld and drugs has the fullest support of president Ranil Wickremesinghe and will not be halted due to any pressure, said public security minister Tiran Alles.
Speaking to the media today (21), he sought the support of the public in that regard in the same way they supported to see an end to the 30-year war.
Their support and information are a big strength in the war against drugs and other crimes spread across the country, he said.
The minister said the operation would not be stopped after one week, and hoped to wipe out those vices by June next year.
Intelligence reports describe 4,665 persons involved in the underworld and drugs, out of which 731 were arrested within the past four days, he said.
Drugs worth Rs. 431 million have been seized and assets of suspects nabbed so far are valued at Rs. 162 million, added Alles.
