The SLPP decided at its national level convention yesterday (15) to reappoint Mahinda Rajapaksa as their leader.
His name was proposed by Gamini Lokuge and seconded by Johnston Fernando.
The event at Sugathadasa indoor stadium in Colombo was attended by key figures such as its founder Basil Rajapaksa and premier Dinesh Gunawardena.
Around 5,000 party members from across the country were also in attendance.
Basil’s warning
Basil Rajapaksa told the gathering that they would definitely win the next election to form its own government.
He stressed that their leader was the only one who saved the people from the fear of death.
He thanked the participants and hoped they had safe journey back to their villages amid various threats.
He warned that they would not act like cowards and were prepared for anything.
3 pc are hypocritical – Sagara
Making the welcome speech, general secretary Sagara Kariyawasam said three per cent of the country’s children were born hypocritical.
They don’t do a job or anything productive, but depend on others, and accuse others of thievery and live a false life, he said.
