A suspect being held in the cell of Batticaloa police has died after being beaten by fellow prisoners.
On the night of 27 November, he had got into trouble with the others and had been attacked with blunt instruments.
Later transferred to Batticaloa prison, he fell ill and admitted to hospital where he died.
A postmortem examination took place yesterday (30).
