The supplier implicated in the substandard human immunoglobulin vaccines scam has supplied low-quality cancer-treatment vaccine rituximab too, courts have been told.

Deputy solicitor general Lakmini Girihagama informed Maligakanda magistrate Lochana Abeywickrama yesterday (29) that Isolez Biotech Pharma had defrauded nearly Rs. 110 million from this.

The former secretary to the health ministry had personally approved the payment for the supplier, she said.

A warrant was issued for the arrest of the CEO of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority who failed to appear before courts as ordered.

The owner of the supplying company and the four officials of the ministry’s Medical supplies Division, all of whom are in remand custody, were produced for the court hearing.
