A total of 24 skeletal remains have so far been exhumed at Kokkutuduvai mass grave in Mullaitivu.

Five more skeletal remains were unearthed on the third day after excavations resumed following a more than two-month pause.

JMO Kanagasabapathy Vasudeva said at the end of the day’s work on 22 November that LTTE tags, ammunition and bomb parts were also found.

Skeletal remains believed to belong to 17 persons, including that of LTTE members, had been dug up by the time work stopped on 15 September to analyze the evidence gathered upto then.

Magistrate Dharmalingam Pradeepan supervised the resumption of excavations on 20 November for further human remains.

The JMO said radar equipment would be used from 23 to 25 November to determine the extent of the gravesite.

Water supply workers digging to lay pipelines stumbled upon the grave on 29 June.
