President Ranil Wickremesinghe told a cabinet meeting yesterday (30) that he will raise the salaries of all state sector employees via the upcoming 2024 budget.
He requested the private sector to consider increasing the salaries similarly, due to the rise in cost of living
The president claimed the JVP and other groups were saying they influenced a pay hike for government employees, which is baseless.
President Wickramasinghe presents his third budget to Parliament on 13 November.
Street protests by state sector workers
Meanwhile, protests took place across the island to demand a Rs. 20,000 pay hike for the state sector and the restoration of the full pension.
