A group of Wanni youths staged a silent protest in a show of support for former Mullaitivu magistrate T. Saravanaraja who has fled the country in the face of alleged death threats.
Gathering in front of the district secretariat there on 09 October, they handed over a petition to additional district secretary K. Kanageswaran.
The petition notes the former magistrate has enforced the law to the letter and asks the justice minister that a proper investigation be conducted into his resignation.
Saravanaraja tendered his resignation letter to the Judicial Services Commission which alleged threats to his life, and then left the country.
In the meantime, lawyers in the north and the east are wearing black facemasks to protest the threats to Saravanaraja.
Also, Tamil parties have announced a joint Hartal on 20 October over the matter.
