A fundamental rights petition filed in the Supreme Court by ministers Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara against the suspension of their party membership by the SJB has been fixed for hearing.

The FR petition that seeks an order to nullify the decision to expel them from the party and disqualify them from their parliamentary seats will be heard on 12 October.

At a hearing yesterday (10) before a three-judge SC bench, the lawyers for the respondents asked that the hearing be completed within two months from the date it was filed, as per the Constitution of Sri Lanka.

Considering the submissions, the court ordered the petitioners to file their counter objections, if any, on that day itself.
