The sectoral oversight committee (SOC) on international relations has discussed setting up a committee headed by the Foreign Ministry to resolve investment and tourism related issues.

MP Namal Rajapaksa chaired a meeting of the SOC on 03 October, where ways and means of Sri Lankan missions abroad promoting both also came under discussion.

Stressed on the occasion was the need for collaboration and proper communication among the Central Bank, Finance Ministry, Export Development Board, Tourism Promotion Authority and the Immigration and Emigration Departments.

Rajapaksa proposed setting up of the committee that could meet at least bi-weekly to discuss outstanding matters.

It was also suggested that a committee with cabinet approval be appointed to deal with BRICS nations.

The Foreign Ministry was instructed to speed up the process of appointing heads of diplomatic missions overseas.
