Photographs of the war-missing children were displayed by their parents, as they demanded justice at a protest on international children’s day.
It took place on 01 October in front of the Mullaitivu district secretariat.
Protestors also highlighted the resignation of magistrate T. Saravanaraja, and carried placards containing slogans about their children.
Human rights groups have detailed 29 children aged below 10 years, including an eight-month old, as being unaccounted for among 280 persons who surrendered to the military on the penultimate day of the war.
ITJP said it was the highest number of disappearance of children on a single day.
President of Mullaitivu’s association of relatives of missing persons Mariyasuresh Iswari said justice for Tamils was uncertain in a country where a judge faces death threats.
Saravanaraja has sent his resignation letter to the Judicial Services Commission, citing threats to his life.
According to Tamil media, the Attorney General’s Department had influenced him to reverse an order to suspend work at a Buddhist temple at Kurunthurmalai archaeology site.
Colombo-based media reported that no intimidation had taken place when Saravanaraja was called to the AG’s office to discuss his request to represent him in three petitions filed against him, seeking invalidation of his orders.
Quoting department sources, the media reported that he has now gone abroad.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed his secretary Saman Ekanayake to conduct a full investigation into the matter.
