President Ranil Wickremesinghe has instructed secretary to the president Saman Ekanayake to conduct a full investigation into the resignation of Mullaitivu magistrate T. Saravanaraja citing death threats.

The order to probe the circumstances of his resignation comes as the magistrate has never informed the police or the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) about such threats.

This came to light during talks the president’s secretary had with public security minister Tiran Alles with regard to the matter.

Ekanayake also asked the attorney general about an allegation leveled by Saravanaraja against him.

The AG replied that he has discussed with Saravanaraja in his office room a request made by him through the JSC to appear for him in a case filed before the court of appeal.

Saravanaraja sent his resignation letter to the JSC on 23 September and left the country a day later.
